Sugar dust seperator
The MULTIWIR dust separator is used in the sugar industry to capture sugar dust from the air stream from a sugar dryer or cooler. The device is divided into two chambers by a vertical baffle. Both chambers are equipped with MULTIWIR polypropylene packings and sprinklers. The lower part of the installation is a separate circulation tank equipped with an overflow and fresh juice supply control valve, as well as a centrifugal pump.
The apparatus is intended for two-stage operation including dust- and droplet separation processes. The sugar dust is separated inside the first chamber, where the Multiwir packing is sprayed from above with a circulating juice. Vertical downward direction of the flow of air allows to apply high air velocity, which increases the efficiency of the dust removal process. The sugar concentration of the circulating juice is maintained automatically in the range 50 ÷ 60Bx by periodically switching on and off the supply of the fresh thin juice to the circulation tank and the operation of the overflow.
The entrained droplets of the juice settle on the packing in the second chamber and drop down. There is a tendency for sugar deposits to form gradually beneath the lower surface of the packing. A designated sprinkler fed with hot thin juice washes away the hanging sugar crystals by being turned on for about 5 minutes per day.
Dust and droplet separation processes proceed in the Multiwir packings due to the centrifugal force resulting from the rotational motion of the air jet streams inside the packing channels.
